The Smith Family
| Grandfather Robert Smith
OBE, fished from St Monans along with his father and brothers
in the days of steam drifters, before branching out and moving
to the port of Granton in Edinburgh, where he became one of
the leading trawler skippers there. |

|
Father David Smith MBE did it in reverse.
After starting the trawling industry in Leith a boy, and eventually
getting to be the 1st Mate of the steam trawler "Cairnburn", he decided in
1953 to leave trawling and have his own 72ft fishing boat built at the
shipyard of Smith and Hutton's, which was sited almost directly cross the
street from the Fish Bar. This was to be the start of a very successful
series of fishing boats which all carried the name "Argonaut", and were to
be skippered by David Smith for almost 40 years, and were well known
throughout the country. |
| After father David retired in 1992, his son
David, brother of Robert, took over as Skipper of "Argonaut 4", and since
that time, has also fished very successfully. |

Robert Smith (pictured far
left), owner of the Anstruther Fish Bar, has been in the fish
trade for 26 years, building up a very successful fish processing
business in St Monans dealing only in fresh fish. It is
from this small factory, that only the very best of their
selected fish processed daily on the premises will be supplied
to the Anstruther Fish Bar. |
