Our Fish

Fresh fish, responsibly caught from sustainable Scottish fisheries, form the mainstay of our menu.

Always cooked to order – either in our secret-recipe crispy batter or grilled if you prefer – almost all our fish are bought on the day they’re served and hand-filleted by local fish processing business.

Here’s just a few highlights from our award-winning bill of fare.

Haddock

Our best-seller, and the star of our famous fish supper, our premium Scottish haddock is fried in our unique light and crispy batter or in beautifully textured breadcrumbs. A true ‘must-have’ for many of our diners.

Lemon Sole

Locally caught and landed, this exquisite fish has a light, delicate texture and flavour. Whether you opt for our famous batter or breadcrumb coating, it’s a melt-in-the-mouth alternative to the traditional haddock supper.

Mackerel

Often caught by us on rod and line and served the same day during the summer months, mackerel is also served hot-smoked all year round. It’s robustly flavoured and packed full of healthy fish oils.

Pittenweem Prawns

Fresh from the East Neuk and served in batter or golden crumb, our Pittenweem prawns are always a delicacy, with a firm, moist texture and a flavour to savour.

Crab & Lobster

A seasonal treat, our crabs and lobsters come straight from local fishermen’s ‘creels’ (lobster/crab pots). They’re cooked very simply to maintain their pure and exquisite natural flavour then served in their shells. Crabs are traditionally ‘dressed’ combining the white and brown meat for the best flavour and texture.

Hake

A delicious, white-fleshed fish from the cod family, served in batter or breadcrumbs. Our Marine Stewardship Council-certified fish come from a sustainable fisheries.*

*Marine Stewardship Council is who audits us on our sustainability and awarded Ansturther Fish Bar as the first Fish and Chip shop in the UK with their certification.

Halibut

Caught and landed locally, this well-flavoured flatfish has a firm texture and very low fat content. A luxurious alternative to the traditional fish supper.

Hot Smoked Salmon

from award winning East Neuk Smoke house – our Hot Smoked Salmon Salad is served with prawn cocktail and is a fantastic refreshing and colourful dish to have on a summers day.

Monk Fish

Known for its delicate texture, mild flavor, and versatility, monkfish is the perfect choice for discerning food lovers seeking a taste sensation like no other. Our Monk can be cooked in our light crispy batter or grilled at diners discretion.
